The two houses pictured are nearly identical, yet the Cook County Assessor has placed wildly different values on each property. Assessor Kaegi thinks the property on the left is worth $460,000 and he thinks the house on the right is worth $274,000.
If you were unfortunate enough to purchase the house on the left, your property tax bill will be 68% higher than the identical house next door. Not exactly a fair and equitable distribution of the property tax burden.
The taxpayer with the higher property tax bill hired an attorney to contest the error in his assessment. The Cook County Assessor denied the appeal.
We need real reform when it comes to Cook County Property Taxes!
