Second installment property tax bills are now due! Cook County will collect over $18 billion from property owners this year. At those prices our taxpayers deserve, at a bare minimum, a functional system that is fair, credible, and responsive. This tax bill season, taxpayers hoping to speak with a human at the Cook County Assessors office about large tax increases had to endure an unacceptable teleprompt hellscape. We deserve better than hour long wait times for answers to property tax questions.
August 1st marks the final event of the 2023 property tax cycle. I respectfully implore our County Commissioners and Assessor Kaegi to review the allocation of resources during predictably busy periods. Answer the phone!
