Honoring Our Veterans

We meet some amazing people at our counter.

Our office is small but mighty. Your local township assessor can provide a level of personal service that the County Assessor just can't match. We can do things like answer the phone (with a human being), greet taxpayers at our counter efficiently, drop off forms for the homebound, and physically inspect taxable property.

We also get to work with some amazing people.

Every year our disabled veterans must submit a renewal application for their disabled veteran property tax exemption. When you see the same people year after, relationships form. Four years ago, our Deputy Assessor Carrie Bernardoni convinced one of our veterans, Bill White, to let her help him secure a seat on Honor Flight.  Yesterday, Mr. Bill White got his day of honor and the Township of Lyons was there to welcome him home.

Honor Flight recognizes our senior military veterans with an all-expense paid, one-of-a-kind journey to Washington D.C. for a day of honor, thanks and inspiration. It was an honor to participate in the welcome home for all the veterans on yesterday’s flight and especially for our taxpayer, Bill White. He received a warm welcome home, many thanks for his service, and a police escort from the airport to his hometown Village of Lyons.

Special thanks to Deputy Assessor Bernardoni for all her hard work this year securing the property tax benefits our veterans have earned. And for going above and beyond by putting yesterday’s event together for one of our special taxpayers. A very memorable experience. It seems you are everywhere, all the time. We are lucky to work with you.
